Research Question | Using a smart menu to suggest healthier choices, what types of changes will people make when ordering at a restaurant to try to meet their health goals?
Process | We explored data collection tools to track behavior of users in authentic contexts.
Experimental Design | We deployed SmartMenu in a busy restaurant and tracked meal choices of those who ordered through SmartMenu and those who ordered from the cashier.
Results | Use of the system encourages people to make healthier choices. Alternatives were offered when an unhealthy choice was selected, which were accepted by some people.
