Research Question | Can text messages replace traditional classrooms, tools, and supplies, and allow students to take learning outside of the classroom?
Experimental Design | Participants learned about Poisson distribution. Some participants completed a practice activity in the lab using worksheets and other common classroom tools, while others received the practice activities through text messages while sitting at a coffee shop.
Results | Participants in both conditions learned the material to a high level of proficiency (over 90%). Learning through text messages was reported as highly acceptable and enjoyable by the participants. This study provided evidence that it is possible to learn anytime and anywhere.
